Cognitive behavioural therapy looks at links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour and works on patterns that may keep a problem going.

What you need to know

Cognitive behavioural therapy looks at links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour and works on patterns that may keep a problem going. It is not simply positive thinking. CBT often includes practical work between sessions and is available through NHS Talking Therapies for many common mental-health problems.

Make it a conversation, not a test

You are allowed to ask questions, explain what matters to you and say when something is not helping. Mental-health care should be based on your needs, circumstances and appropriate clinical assessment.
