Confidence, self-worth and body image
If you or someone else is in danger, call 999 or go to A&E. If you need urgent mental-health help but it is not an emergency, use NHS 111 online or call 111 and select the mental-health option.
Your value isn't your waist measurement — but how you feel about your body can still affect how you feel about yourself.
Confidence can shrink quietly
Avoiding photos, clothes, intimacy, swimming, the gym or social situations can gradually make life smaller. Weight may be part of that story for some people, but confidence and mental wellbeing are more complicated than a number on the scales.
Physical change can help without being a cure
Improving physical health, fitness or weight can improve how some people feel. It is important not to promise that weight loss will treat depression or anxiety. Mental-health problems deserve appropriate support in their own right.
Build evidence, not slogans
Confidence often grows from doing things: keeping a small promise to yourself, returning to something you've avoided, asking for help, getting fitter, reconnecting with people. Start with actions small enough to repeat.
