When being a parent feels relentless

Need urgent help?

If you or someone else is in danger, call 999 or go to A&E. If you need urgent mental-health help but it is not an emergency, use NHS 111 online or call 111 and select the mental-health option.

You can love your kids beyond words and still occasionally want five minutes where nobody says “Dad”.

Pressure doesn't mean you don't appreciate them

Behaviour, school, additional needs, teenagers, childcare, money and trying to work at the same time can grind people down. Guilt then makes it harder to admit you're struggling.

Lower the standard from impossible

Children need safe, caring adults — not a parent who never gets tired, frustrated or gets anything wrong. Repair after a bad moment matters.

Ask for practical help

A lift, an hour of childcare, somebody making tea, sharing school runs or simply having somebody listen can be more useful than vague offers of “anything you need”.
