Prostate SABR: fewer radiotherapy visits for eligible men

What the rollout offers
NHS England announced that eligible men with localised prostate cancer could be offered stereotactic ablative radiotherapy, usually shortened to SABR. It uses carefully targeted radiation and is typically delivered in five sessions, compared with at least twenty in the conventional course described in the announcement.
The potential reduction in visits matters to travel, time away from work and the demands on family or friends. It does not mean the cancer diagnosis, planning, treatment and follow-up are all completed in five appointments.
Fewer sessions do not settle the choice
Suitability depends on the cancer and the person’s circumstances. The announcement explicitly says this approach is not appropriate for everyone with localised disease. A national rollout plan also cannot confirm when a particular centre will offer it.
